AUSTIN, TX--Today the Texas Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES) honored Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. with its organization's Outstanding Leadership and Advocacy Award.
The award was given in recognition of outstanding leadership promoting excellence in public education in the state of Texas by advocating school counseling as an integral part of academic achievement for all children. TACES is the division of the Texas Counseling Association composed of counselor supervisors, directors, coordinators, as well as professors who teach counseling at universities.
Program Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling, Ms. Kathryn Everest said, "Sen. Lucio is incredibly deserving of this award as he champions children and public education by realizing and advocating appropriate use of school counselors' specialized training and skill."
"It is indeed an honor to be recognized by a group that advances the needs and goals of counseling in this state," said Sen. Lucio. "When our children are most vulnerable, school counselors are on the frontline. They are skilled in detecting problems, issues or concerns in a student's behavior, and are mindful of what is in the best interest of students."
Ms. Everest added, "Time and time again Sen. Lucio promotes a positive learning environment for kids."
