Austin, TX - Today in a press conference in the State Capitol, Lieutenant Governor Bill Ratliff announced the committee assignments for the Texas Senate for the upcoming 77th Legislative Session. Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., (D-Brownsville) was appointed to chair the Subcommittee on Border Affairs under the Committee of Business and Commerce (formerly the Economic Development Committee).
"Governor Ratliff reaffirmed the state's commitment to the Border by allowing this region to continue to have a forum through the Subcommittee on Border Affairs," stated Chairman Lucio.
Commenting on his appointment to the powerful Finance Committee, which drafts the state's budget, Senate Lucio said, "I am thankful that my efforts and leadership have allowed me to be reappointed to the Finance Committee." Senator Lucio was a member of the Senate Finance Committee during the 74th and 75th Legislative Sessions. "As a member of the Finance Committee, I will work in a bipartisan manner with my colleagues to secure funding that will result in developing the Border's infrastructure."
Senator Lucio is also pleased to remain a member of the influential Natural Resources Committee. He stated, "The agriculture industry is the number one industry in South Texas. As a member of Natural Resources, I will work to address our agriculture, water and environmental needs in the Lower Rio Grande Valley."
