AUSTIN, TX--"I wholeheartedly support the election of Sen. Bill Ratliff as president of the Texas Senate," said state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville. "He is truly a man of dignity and respect."
Today Sen. Ratliff, R-Mt. Pleasant, received the majority of votes (16 to 15) from his colleagues and was sworn in as Lt. Governor of Texas.
"He truly stands out when it comes to fairness, leadership and commitment," added Sen. Lucio. "It has been a privilege for me to serve alongside this remarkable legislator for many years, including on the Senate Finance Committee.
"I am convinced that the 77th legislative session will be one of the most successful under the guidance of Lt. Gov. Ratliff. He brings his many years of public service and dedication to the people of Texas to this new position," added Sen. Lucio. "He definitely deserves this nomination to one of the state's most powerful and challenging posts. I applaud him and look forward to working under his mastery and direction."
Upon accepting the nomination, Sen. Ratliff said he was honored to be chosen by his peers, who know his faults, to such a responsible position. "To this comment I can only add that although he is human and must have human frailties, they are difficult to find and his qualities not only stand out but dominate his presence," said Sen. Lucio.
