(LAREDO)—Dean Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, released the following statement regarding the tragic passing of Dr. Pablo Arenaz, President of Texas A&M International University:

“The higher education nation in general, and the Laredo and university community in particular, are shocked and saddened by the passing of Dr. Pablo Arenaz. He was an exemplary president who was as passionate about leading Texas A&M International University as he was caring about the students he nurtured.

“An outstanding educator whose stellar career brought him to Laredo, we were blessed by his energy and enthusiasm as he collaborated with anyone interested in providing a better future through education for our students.

“Count me among his countless friends and colleagues who will miss him greatly and remember him fondly.”
