(AUSTIN) — Some judges who changed their driver's license addresses from their homes to their courthouses, as permitted by Senator Judith Zaffirini's 2017 courthouse security bill, inadvertently may have changed their voting addresses in the process, resulting in problems at the polls.

"Judges should contact their local voter registration official or the Secretary of State's Office to confirm their voting address," Zaffirini said. "I also urge judges to vote early to ensure that any issues are addressed before election day."

Judges can call the Secretary of State's office via 1-800-252-8683 (Secretary of State's office) or get contact information for their county voter registration official via https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/votregduties.shtml.

"If you experience this problem, please email Office of Court Administration staff via courtsecurity@txcourts.gov," the senator said. "Such information will help us determine how to resolve this problem in the future."

Senate Bill 42, the Judge Julie Kocurek Judicial and Courthouse Security Act of 2017, was intended to enhance not only the privacy and security of judges and their spouses, but also of courthouse personnel and visitors.
