Senator Zaffirini Announces Nov. 30 Campaign Ethics Workshop
Texas Ethics Commission Experts To Answer Questions,
Explain How to Avoid Ethics Violations

(AUSTIN) — The Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) will host its 2017 Fall Ethics Training on Thursday, Nov. 30, 1- 5 p.m., at the Texas A&M International University Student Center (Room 231) in Laredo, Senator Judith Zaffirini announced today.

The workshop will focus on topics that are relevant and timely for elected officeholders, candidates, campaign treasurers, and volunteers. These include the Dos and Don’ts of campaign reporting, advertising and financing. Equally important, TEC experts will show attendees how to comply with statutory requirements and how to avoid fines (often $500-$15,000) and other negative consequences of violating ethics requirements.

"I am delighted that TEC will host this popular training in Laredo for the first time," Senator Zaffirini said. "The event usually is held in larger cities, but officeholders, candidates and other leaders in South Texas expressed a keen interest in receiving this important training at a convenient location close to home."

Senator Zaffirini is a longtime champion for strengthening ethics regulations and preventing cronyism and corruption. What's more, she has sponsored and passed five bills improving processes and procedures at the Texas Ethics Commission, thereby enhancing efficiency and accountability for candidates and officeholders.

"Texas' ethics requirements are an important public accountability tool, and it is critical that candidates, officeholders, campaign treasurers and volunteers understand and adhere to them," Senator Zaffirini said. "This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to learn the current rules and identify ways to avoid fines."
