FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 12, 2013
"I was as shocked and dismayed as I was saddened and troubled by the accidental death of Esther Buckley. She had spent the day at the State Capitol, advocating with her beloved son and fellow teacher, James, for the children of Texas.
"Esther was a magnificent educator whose legacy will live in the hearts and minds of her countless students and their families. Her deep love for her family inspired her to share her intellectual and personal abilities with others.
"Our community was blessed by her character, and her impact will be long-lasting.
"I will remember Esther fondly. Above all, I will treasure my memories of hosting her and James at my Capitol office before she left to Laredo. I never imagined that our goodbye abrazo would be our last.
"Today the Texas Senate honored her by adjourning in her memory. It was my honor to make that motion, which was passed unanimously."
