(AUSTIN) — Students from Mexico and Spain who attend The University of Texas at Austin were honored today (Thursday) at the Texas Capitol. Sponsored for the eighth consecutive year by the Laredo National Bank/BBVA Group, a division of Compass Bank, the reception was held at the Lieutenant Governor's reception room. Students were welcomed by Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, host; Jim Moore, the bank's Laredo city president; and Bill Powers, UT President.
The students interacted and networked with top-ranking UT administrators, distinguished UT alumni and legislative representatives.
"Congratulations on studying at one of the finest universities in the country," Senator Zaffirini said. "As a lifetime member of the Texas Exes, I welcome you to the halls of the Texas Capitol. As chair of the Senate Finance Higher Education Subcommittee it is my pleasure to work on your behalf to ensure the best possible educational opportunities are available to you."
Moore expressed how proud LNB is to sponsor the UT reception for students from Mexico and Spain annually.
"It is an honor to welcome you to Texas," he said. "Our bank enthusiastically supports educational programs that promote stronger relationships among students from Texas, Mexico and Spain. Our efforts enhance international relations and the global economy, today and in the future."
