Senator Zaffirini Announces $50,000 Grant for Lytle High School

(AUSTIN) - Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, announced today (Wednesday) that Lytle High School has preliminarily been awarded an AchieveTexas College and Career Redesign program grant of $50,000 from the Texas Education Agency.

Four additional academic institutions in Senator Zaffirini's District 21 also were preliminarily awarded AchieveTexas College and Career grants, totaling $250,000 for the five high schools.

AchieveTexas College and Career grants provide resources that expose students to state-of-the-art academic, career and technical educational materials. The grants not only help increase student achievement, but also improve teaching practices statewide by allowing schools to serve as educational demonstration sites.

"I am delighted that Lytle High School was recognized for its achievements and success by being selected to receive $50,000 from the Achieve Texas College grant program," Senator Zaffirini said. "This program will provide both valuable and innovative instructional materials to help our students achieve greater levels of success while also assisting our teachers with developing leadership and classroom skills."

Confirmation of the award is pending verification by the Texas Education Agency that the grants comply with statutory requirements and with the intent and purposes of the grant program as applied to the academic institutions.
