A $1,500 Texas Department of Health (TDH) 2000/2001 Award for Excellence in Texas School Health was awarded to Theodore Roosevelt High School in the North East Independent School District for the school's I..D. Diabetes program, Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, announced today (Wednesday).
"I am proud of Roosevelt High School for establishing such a program for the students," Sen. Zaffirini said. "These health programs illustrate the importance of ensuring that students stay healthy and, therefore, can take advantage of all educational opportunities. School health should be a strategy of collaboration between schools and their communities."
The Awards for Excellence in Texas School Health Program is administered by TDH with financial support from the Texas Health Foundation. Each year the TDH presents awards to 15 innovative and collaborative school health programs that strive to improve health practices of Texas school students and staff.
The Awards for Excellence banquet and ceremony will be held on June 4 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in conjunction with the annual ALL WELL School Health Promotion Conference.
