SENATOR HINOJOSA RECEIVES ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS OF TEXAS FREE ENTERPRISE CHAMPION AWARD

AUSTIN, TX - Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa was presented with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Texas Free Enterprise Champion Award by Jon Fisher, President of ABC of Texas, for Senator Hinojosa's work during the 85th Texas Legislature. During the 85th Session, Senator Hinojosa authored Senate Bill (SB) 1506, which would have updated and simplified Texas' archaic and complex laws related to mechanic's, contractor's, or materialman's liens.

ABC members are involved in commercial and industrial construction and include general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and industry professionals united in their belief of Free Enterprise Principles and the Merit Shop Philosophy. ABC of Texas is comprised of 8 ABC Chapters in Texas — Greater Houston, TEXO (DFW area & East Texas), Southeast Texas (Golden Triangle area), Texas Gulf Coast (Freeport area), Texas Mid Coast (Victoria area), Texas Coastal Bend (Corpus Christi area), South Texas (San Antonio area) and Central Texas (Austin area).

Jon Fisher issued the following statement:

"The ABC of Texas Free Enterprise Champion Award is given to state legislators that advance the interests of the commercial and industrial construction industry in the Texas Legislature. Senator Hinojosa authored a bill to modernize Texas’ outdated and overly complicated Mechanics Lien Law. His willingness to begin this process shows his dedication to the Texas construction industry which builds our schools, hospitals, office buildings, industrial facilities, etc. ABC of Texas applauds Senator Hinojosa’s understanding of the Free Enterprise system and his support of the construction industry."

Senator Hinojosa issued the following statement:

"I am honored to receive the Free Enterprise Champion Award from ABC of Texas for my efforts to clarify a legal scheme that results in confusion and increased costs. Simplifying these archaic and complex lien laws would help the construction industry and consumers alike."

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa proudly represents the counties of Nueces, Jim Wells, Brooks, and Hidalgo (part). Senator Hinojosa served as the Senate President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate in the 84th Texas Legislature.
