AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Water Development Board, approved over $27 million for the City of Mission and Agua Special Utility District (Agua SUD) in western Hidalgo County. The loans approved today will provide $19.6 million for the City of Mission and another $8.2 million for the Agua Special Utility District that services rural portions of western Hidalgo County. The financial assistance will finance construction of a wastewater collection system and expand Mission's wastewater treatment plant to help provide first time wastewater service to the City of Palmview and surrounding areas.
Senator Hinojosa issued the following statement:
"Clean water and wastewater services are essential to the development and health of our communities. With these funds, the City of Mission and Agua SUD will be able to expand wastewater services in these fast growing communities and provide first-time waste water services to the City of Palmview and surrounding areas. The impact of this infrastructure improvement will promote economic development and safeguard against public health concerns."
"I applaud the City of Mission, the City of Palmview, and AGUA SUD for working together to provide these critical services to our local communities."
Background on project:
Agua SUD's loan will complete financing for a $45 million plant, funded through a variety of sources, that will treat up to 2.5 million gallons per day in the City of Palmview. Mission will use a portion of its loan to partner with Agua SUD to provide service to the area and also to expand its existing wastewater treatment plant from 9 million gallons per day to 13.5 million gallons per day.
