TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD APPROVES $10.4 MILLION FOR THE CITY OF EDINBURG WATER PROJECT

AUSTIN — Today, the Texas Water Development Board, at their regularly scheduled Board meeting, approved $10,425,000 for the City of Edinburg to expand an existing water treatment plant. The funds will come from the Agency's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSFR). The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, authorized by the Safe Drinking Water Act, provides low-interest financial assistance for planning, design, and construction of water infrastructure.

Senator Hinojosa issued the following statement:

"The City of Edinburg is growing and with that there is a greater need for improved infrastructure and water supply. I am pleased that the newly appointed Board recognizes this and is committed to assisting the region to meet the demands and needs of our population. These funds will allow the City of Edinburg to expand one of their water treatment plants to meet higher water demands, population and service area growth the City of Edinburg has been experiencing."

City of Edinburg Mayor Richard H. Garcia issued the following statement:

"This is an exciting day for Edinburg. This loan will allow us to meet the current water demand for the more than 82,000 people who live in Edinburg and welcome future growth both residential and commercial."
