Senator Hinojosa to Hold Press Conference Announcing the Devastating Impact of Medicaid Cuts to Valley Area Pharmacies
WHO: Senator Hinojosa and Rio Grande Valley Independent Pharmacy Owners
WHAT: Press conference on the impact to patients and pharmacies from the move to Medicaid Managed Care (Pharmacy Benefit Managers/PBM's).
WHERE: Sam Houston Pharmacy & Medical, 1002 W. SAM HOUSTON ST., STE 1, PHARR, TX 78577
WHEN: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012
WHY: Senator Hinojosa and the Rio Grande Valley Independent Pharmacy Association and area pharmacists will highlight the devastating impact to Medicaid patients, small businesses and all Valley residents that will result from the move to managed care for Medicaid pharmacy services. As part of the move to managed care, pharmacies will see as much as an 80 percent reduction in reimbursement for filling Medicaid prescriptions. If the reimbursement rates are not increased to be more fair and equitable, many pharmacies in the Valley and all corners of the state could close their doors resulting in reduced access to vital medications and pharmacy services by Medicaid recipients and other Texans.
