ANDREA GUTIERREZ, LUNA SCHOLAR FROM MCALLEN RECOGNIZED ON THE SENATE FLOOR

(Austin, TX) — Today, the Texas Senate recognized the Senator Gregory Luna Legislative Scholars with Senate Resolution 765 for their commitment, hard work and dedication. Senator Hinojosa recognized the outstanding achievement of Luna Scholar Andrea Gutierrez from McAllen, who currently works in his office.

"It was an honor to introduce Andrea Gutierrez, an exceptional young lady from my district who is currently working on her second legislative session in my office," said Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa. "Her interest in Texas politics led her to this excellent program, and I have to say I am grateful to have her working with us – she has done a terrific job."

The Gregory Luna Program made it possible for 17 scholars to participate in the 82nd Legislative Session. The Scholars are in charge of various activities such as research, constituent relations, drafting talking points, staffing committee hearings, tracking legislation and various other legislative tasks. The program was named after former Texas Senator Gregory Luna of San Antonio.

"Andrea has been very successful, to the point that she oversees legislation in the Agriculture Committee," Senator Hinojosa continued. "I've had several Luna scholars in my office, and it's always a pleasure to see these young people evolve professionally."

Besides allowing students and recent graduates to receive invaluable professional experience, the Legislative Scholars Program launches these students into careers in public policy, law and public service.

"I know Andrea wants to go to law school some day and return to the Valley to serve the people of her community," Senator Hinojosa concluded. "I hope her time in my office and her experience allows her to be successful in her future endeavors."
