Edinburg Day at the Capitol

(Austin, TX) — Earlier today, Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa joined Edinburg Mayor Richard H. Garcia, Councilmember Alma A. Garza, Chairman of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce Johnny Rodriguez, and President of The University of Texas - Pan American Dr. Robert S. Nelson, on the floor of the Senate to commemorate Edinburg Day at the Capitol - as officially designated by Senate Resolution 413. Senator Hinojosa released the following statement.

"I am proud to have the city leadership and delegation at the capitol. Edinburg is a top destination for industry - it serves an important economic role in the region - but it's also home to The University of Texas -Pan American, where I received my education.

"There is a first-class network of public and private health care facilities in the city. Not only do they expand medical research through institutions like the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio research campus in Edinburg, but they also offer a growing industry that employs thousands of people.

"The proposed budget threatens to undercut funding for important services, like education and healthcare and we need to work together to find solutions to these challenges by taking a balanced approach to the budget - considering both cuts and revenue sources.

"I appreciate the city leadership for coming to the capitol to express their legislative concerns, and I commend the City of Edinburg for their participation.
