Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa Presents Resolution in Honor of Feria de las Flores in the Texas Senate

AUSTIN -- State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa presented resolution SR 71 Thursday in honor of the 47th Annual League of United Latin American Citizens' Feria de las Flores.

"I want to commend the Feria de las Flores competition for the exceptional educational opportunities it has offered to the young people of South Texas for so many decades," Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said. "It makes me proud to see these young women celebrating our Mexican American traditions and investing in their educations. They are the leaders of tomorrow."

This is the 47th year that the LULAC Council No. 1 has sponsored the Feria de las Flores.

Several participants in the Feria de las Flores have gone on to academic and professional achievements. The contestant selected as the Queen of the Feria de las Flores receives a $3,000 scholarship and represents LULAC Council No. 1 in all community and social activities during her reign.

Participating in this year's Feria de las Flores are: Teresa Sanchez, Queen of Feria de las Flores, Imelda Perales, Mirna Flores, Lisa Marie Castillo, Jacqueline Castellanos, Amber Vasquez and Amy Velasquez.

State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, represents the people of District 20, which includes Nueces, Hidalgo, Brooks and Jim Wells counties.
