SENATOR NELSON CUTS RIBBON ON NEW FLOWER MOUND DRIVER LICENSE OFFICE

AUSTIN, TX – Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, today cut the ribbon on a new driver license office in Flower Mound.

"As chair of the Senate Finance Committee, I have worked to provide significant funding over the last two sessions to reduce wait times and make it easier for Texans to renew their licenses online," Senator Nelson said. "We have made progress but have more work to do. This new facility -- the fourth in Denton County -- will have limited services but will make obtaining a driver license more convenient for resident in this part of the county."

The new office -- located in the Denton County’s Southwest Courthouse at 6200 Canyon Falls Dr. -- will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will only offer services that cannot be completed online, including original driver license, original ID cards, and renewal and replacements for customers who must appear in person. Customers should call 1-866-DL-RENEW or log on to Texas.gov to determine which transactions cannot be completed online. For more information, visit https://www.dps.texas.gov/.

The Legislature has increased funding for the Driver License Improvement Plan by $276 million over the past two sessions. This is a long-term initiative to build additional mega centers, hire new staff, make better use of technology to reduce wait times, and make the renewal process more user-friendly. Part of that initiative included a new mega center built in Carrollton under a rider authored by Senator Nelson.

Due to surges in demand for services this summer, the Department of Public Safety announced recently that it will hire 100 new employees to staff our driver license offices. In that announcement, DPS noted that more than half of Texans who are showing up to DPS offices are eligible for online transactions.

SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and the highest-ranking Republican in the Texas Senate.
