Austin - The Senate Finance Committee is meeting today to discuss the ongoing crisis at Child Protective Services.
"We have a duty to protect these children," Senator Nelson, R-Flower Mound, said. "There has been funding increase after funding increase for Child Protective Services, even in lean budget years, yet the agency remains in a constant state of crisis. I recognize that additional investments may be needed, but we need to make sure we are putting our resources where they will do the most good."
Today's hearing includes an overview of recent funding decisions from the Legislative Budget Board, along with testimony from the Sunset Advisory Commission, which reviewed the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) during the last Sunset cycle, and The Stephen Group, a private firm that conducted a separate review of the agency's practices. DFPS is testifying on their plan to ensure timely contact with children.
