AUSTIN — The Transition Legislative Oversight Committee (TLOC), co-chaired by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, met today for an update on the progress of the health and human services re-organization.
"With the first phase of restructuring now complete, we need to remain vigilant in our effort to ensure a seamless transition for those who rely on state services," said Senator Nelson.
TLOC was created under Senator Nelson's SB 200, the Sunset bill re-organizing the five independent agencies that make up the state's health and human services system. TLOC, which is charged with monitoring the transition and reporting related progress to the next Legislature, includes four members of the Senate, four members of the House and three public members appointed by the Governor.
On September 1, 2016, the first phase of the transition was completed with client services and administrative functions being consolidated at the Health and Human Services Commission. The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services was abolished on the same day with its functions divided between HHSC and the Texas Workforce Commission.
