AUSTIN – The Senate Finance Committee today approved SB 53 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to require that state agencies undergo a fiscal review, also known as a zero-based budgeting review, on a rotating basis that would coincide with the agency's sunset review.
"This bill will ensure that the budgets of our state agencies undergo a deep scrubbing on a rotating basis. These fiscal reviews are important because they will make sure that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly and that we are achieving our intended results," Senator Nelson said.
The bill will now move before the full Senate.
