AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, was named as head of the Article II workgroup, which will craft the Senate's budget for health and human services which accounts for more than one-third of the total budget, according to an announcement today by the Senate Finance Committee. She was also appointed to the workgroup on Article I and Article VII, and the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Fiscal Matters.
"I am honored to lead the budget-writing process for our state's health and human services," said Senator Nelson. "My focus will be on providing services for our state's most vulnerable citizens, as well as ensuring that the programs these funds support are achieving good outcomes for the people who rely on state services."
Article II covers the budget of the Health and Human Services Commission, the Department of State Health Services, the Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Department of Family Protective Services and the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. Article I covers the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, the Crime Victim's Compensation Fund, tourism and other priorities. Article VII covers economic development.
Senator Nelson continues her position as chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. She is the longest-serving chairman of the committee in the history of the Texas Senate and has received numerous state and national awards for her achievements as chairman.
