AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, today received the 2011 Legislative Leadership Award from the Texas chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons.
"On behalf of AARP and our two million members in Texas, we would like to recognize Senator Nelson for her work to improve the safety and quality of nursing home care," said Bob Jackson, AARP State Director. "Her leadership will help promote quality outcomes for nursing home patients throughout the state."
The organization specifically cited Senator Nelson's legislation to protect senior citizens, including SB 7 and SB 223, improving long-term care oversight to prevent the exploitation of senior citizens.
"It is an incredible honor to be awarded by such a distinguished organization," said Senator Nelson, who chairs the Senate Health & Human Services Committee. "The AARP provides a strong voice on behalf of Texas senior citizens, and we depend on their input as we consider policies that impact their lives."
