AUSTIN -- Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, will update local business leaders on issues before the Texas Legislature during a joint meeting of the government affairs committees for all Denton County chambers of commerce. The event will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce.
"There are several discussions taking place at the State Capitol right now, and the legislative outcome could have a major impact on the issues important to Denton County -- transportation, education health care and our economy," Senator Nelson said. "I want to help our local business community engage in these discussions so that we can work together to ensure that the decisions made in Austin have a positive impact for our local economy."
Senator Nelson and her husband, J. Michael Nelson, own and operate a precision aircraft component manufacturing company in Denton. Earlier this year, the Texas Association of Business named Senator Nelson a "Champion of Free Enterprise" in honor of her voting record in support of Texas businesses. At Thursday's meeting, the Texas Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses will be on hand to announce another award for Senator Nelson.
