GRAPEVINE -- Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, has been appointed to the Texas Legislative Council, which oversees the legal, research, administration and support arm of the Texas Legislature.
"I appreciate this opportunity to help ensure efficiency and openness in state government," Senator Nelson said. "The Texas Legislative Council serves as the glue that holds our legislative process together. It has made enormous strides to ensure that citizens can easily access information about actions taken by the Legislature. I look forward to building on those efforts and ensuring that we make the best possible use of our resources."
The Texas Legislative Council, under the guidance of a 14-member council, provides drafting, computing, research, and publishing services to the Texas Legislature and legislative agencies. The council also serves as an information resource for state agencies and the citizens of Texas.
The Council includes the Speaker of the House and Lieutenant Governor, who preside over the council and appoint six members each from the House of Representatives and Texas Senate, respectively. The newly appointed board will serve through the end of the 2007 legislative session.
